Changes to Free Trial
Thursday June 20th 2013 11:07:22 AM EDT
We have had a great success with our free trial. Unfortunately a few select individuals have been abusing the service; approximately 72% of free trial tests have been requested by only 10% of free trial users. This is unacceptable and since banning the responsible accounts would not stop this in the future, we had to take corrective action. Effective immediately are the following changes:
- The free trial is now limited to 200 Mbps for only 10 minutes an hour. This means that 100 Mbps can be used for 20 minutes an hour. If a test is cancelled, only the elapsed duration will count towards this limit.
- To reduce the effectiveness of multi-accounting, free trial limits are applied to both the requesting user account and the requesting IP address.
- To reduce the effectiveness of bots and other automation, reloading the webpage will no longer successfully restart a test. This applies to premium members as well.
We regret the necessity of these changes as we understand that they will affect some innocent parties; however, these changes are necessary to ensure our quality of service.
